Homecoming: 4 Steps to Come Home To Yourself
Step 1: Creatively Reflect on Your Life
If a film were made about your life, what three scenes would have to be included in order for others to truly know who you are?
Identify moments when you felt most alive; write those down and take note of themes
Make a short playlist of songs that give expression to you are your best
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what
the world needs is people who have come alive. - Howard Thurman
Step 2: Name Your Sacred Values
Harnessing insights from Step 1, write down your five most sacred values
Write out where you see evidence of those values being manifest in your life today
Identify areas where you'd like to see change
The antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest. The antidote to exhaustion is
wholeheartedness. - David Steindl-Rast
Step 3: Visualize Home, your Unique Vision
Imagine where you want to be one year from now if success were certain. Close your eyes, and let yourself feel the vision; go big
Write the eulogy you would want read at your Celebration of Life
Share your vision with someone you trust
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside,
dreams; who looks inside, awakes. –Carl Jung
Step 4: Take Concrete, Inspired Action
Set one small goal that aligns with your values and moves you closer to your vision
Focus on your system, not your outcome (e.g. “write 3x a week” is better than “publish a book.” Trust the process to move you forward)
Take note of the surprising good things that start coming your way, a sure sign that you are stepping into a calling
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it
took to blossom. - Anaïs Nin
